Condemned to eternity together?

Collectors and art organisations are looking at new models for collaboration and reflection. Will this new ecosystem bring tension or relief?

Visual Arts Flanders is pleased to invite fair visitors to a round table conference joining the curators of the 5 cluster events of Visual Arts Flanders 2012 to foster the discussion on how these models can evolve; the opportunities and pitfalls when joining worlds that historically have had little in common and the role each party assumes in the art project of the future. There’s often a delicate dance between collectors and art exhibitions or projects and even more so in relation to an institutional acquisition policy. It requires that curators be strong enough to assert their curatorial independence and integrity.
Art events in the public space add an extra dimension to how artworks from private collections are integrated in those ever so often specific conditions and environments.
It is important that organisations and collectors are vigilant about potential conflicts of interest. But over the years, with the collaborative model developing, mutual expertise will become available. Relationships develop, especially when they are bound to go together for a long time. Do join us in those challenging and groundbreaking discussions that will be moderated by Johan Pas.
